Fit For Her Journey

"I Need Faith"

Allie Gibbs Season 2 Episode 7

Why do we trust everything else more confidently than we trust God? Faith—that cornerstone of Christian life—often becomes selective in our complex lives. We place unwavering trust in relationships, career paths, and material solutions while simultaneously questioning God's faithfulness when circumstances don't align with our expectations.

This honest exploration of faith examines the profound disconnect between how we trust the tangible versus the divine. Drawing from Hebrews 11:1, we unpack faith as "the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen"—not blind trust, but confident assurance grounded in God's proven character. When prayers appear unanswered, when doors close unexpectedly, or when grief overwhelms, our faith faces its greatest test.

Faith without corresponding action holds little value. Just as improving health requires practical steps—exercise, nutrition, stress management—faith manifests in our daily choices and behaviors. The question isn't whether we'll face difficulties, but whether we'll maintain our confidence that God's promises transcend our current circumstances. Will you choose to trust that closed doors lead to greater opportunities, that failed relationships make space for restoration, and that even in loss, God remains faithful?

Speaker 1:

Let's get into this conversation and let me talk to you all about how we all need more faith, and my prayer is that by the end of this episode, you will have more confidence in your faith and trust in God. Now, that can only be by the move of the Holy Spirit, so let's get into it. We put our faith in many things. We see it happening all the time, putting our faith in people or things, whether it be in our mom, our dad, our sisters, our brothers, your best friend who you've known since the second grade, or maybe it's your favorite cousin who you say is a writer and has your back, no matter what. You even put your faith into a relationship because everything looks and sounds good and you know that. You know that that man is supposed to be your husband and you have faith in that Every day, without thought. You have faith that your car is going to start in the morning to get you from point A to point B. You have faith that your current job is the stepping stone for your next level in climbing the corporate ladder in your company and you have faith that you are the next in line for a promotion. Maybe you have faith in those diet supplements that you saw that Instagram influencer take to lose weight and you also believe they will work for you to lose weight as well, because you want those extra 15 pounds gone. Okay, I ain't mad at you, sis, but see, we put in half so much faith in things and people around us, but how much of that faith do we really have for God? Do you really carry that same level of faith in God?

Speaker 1:

What I have discovered is that most of us don't. We trust God until we don't. Don't we trust God until we don't. We have faith until we don't. What do I mean by when we don't? What I mean by this is we say we have faith in something because we want to believe that the outcome will go in our favor. We believe if we ask God for something in prayer because we have a need, the outcome should also go in our favor. But when the outcome is not what we want it to be, instead of believing that God is working things out for your good, his way versus yours, you begin to lose faith. Maybe you have faith that God was going to heal a loved one from an accident and although you prayed and other people prayed, but in the end your loved one did not survive their injuries, you lose faith.

Speaker 1:

Now, I know that's heavy, but what is faith? Hebrews 11.1,. The writer explains faith as this Now, faith is the assurance. Now another translation says Don't get me wrong.

Speaker 1:

People lose faith for many reasons and in some cases I can absolutely understand why one would. But when it comes to God, we should never lose faith in Him. I'm not saying that there will never be times, or even a season, where you're angry, you're frustrated, you feel forgotten or even distant from God. As humans, those are all realistic to us. But God is never far away from us, even in his big no to us. So here's why we should never lose faith in God to us. So here's why we should never lose faith in God.

Speaker 1:

Faith is a persistent hope in the promises of God, in spite of difficulty or opposition. There are trials and struggles that we are guaranteed to face as Christians. We are not exempt from them. The Bible says count it all joy when you meet trials of various kinds for you, james 1. I know, for me I don't always count it as joy. If I'm being honest, it's hard when what we see and feel with our eyes and bodies are affecting us right now. Oftentimes, all we want to do is make whatever suffering we're experiencing to go away. My first instinct isn't to count it as joy when I feel the attacks of the enemy. There are moments when I feel myself slipping, but the convictions of the Holy Spirit are always right on time, right there, reminding me of who I am and the authority that I have. I may not believe it right in that moment, but if I'm praying it and I'm reading it in God's word, I begin to have that weight lifted up off of me and what once felt so heavy or had me in tears has become lighter and I find myself being able to smile again because I feel the grace.

Speaker 1:

See, the Bible also reminds us of this in Romans 5. We rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us. Come on somebody. You can't tell me we don't have a loving and a present God who gives endless grace. Listen, if God closed the door on one opportunity in your life, don't lose faith, because it may just mean that, in accordance to God's will, he plans to open a door that has bigger and better opportunities just for you. If the friendships failed and you've been moved away from a particular friend circle, have faith that God has aligned true and godly friendships to come into your life. If the marriage falls apart, have faith that God restores what has been lost. If you are grieving the loss of a loved one that you prayed fervently for God to allow them to live, have faith that they are now alive and well with the Lord, and by faith you will see them again for all of eternity.

Speaker 1:

When we think of faith as the assurance of things hoped for. Assurance is also translated as confidence. When you have assurance of faith, that means you are undoubtedly and are for certain that God's promises are bigger than your current circumstances. This is not an act of blind faith, wishful thinking or being gullible. It's not being naive. It's acting and moving and believing in such a way, in full confidence, that God will do what he said. He will do as promised, and we see these promises come to pass as we surrender our will for God's will.

Speaker 1:

You want to know why we must surrender our will for the will of God, no matter how great it sounds to us or to someone else, or how much faith we have in our own abilities. We must surrender because our will often makes room for us to be comfortable in our own sin and to sin against God. It makes us believe that we can do things on our own in this life without God, and therefore, if you can see what the outcome will be, if you can accomplish something with your own ability and strength, there is no use for faith. It doesn't go without saying that we can actually do things without depending on God. You know, for our day-to-day, as in caring for our needs, you get dressed in the morning you do not call on God and say, god, get me dressed this morning, okay, you don't go to God and say, make my breakfast this morning, god. But faith is needed for what we can't see and can't touch. And too often many of you, me included, are looking for what God can do for you instead of just having faith that God alone is enough.

Speaker 1:

I'm reminded of how Thomas doubted Jesus's resurrection until he was able to see and put his finger in Jesus's hand and placing his hand in Jesus's pierced side. And when Jesus appeared to Thomas and showed him his wounds to prove that he indeed was resurrected. It was then that Thomas believed. And Jesus said to Thomas in John 20, 29, have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed. Jesus does not say that one is at a disadvantage for not believing without hard proof. He simply makes a point that not everyone is blessed with the same level of evidence yet. And still they are blessed when they believe even without it.

Speaker 1:

Hebrews 11 6 reminds us that without faith it is impossible to please God. Nothing about this text indicates that faith says you have to do a specific deed to please God or that you have to have confidence in your own strength or ability to please God. It simply indicates that you must have faith in your belief in God's existence, that you walk with God and have confidence that he is trustworthy, having confident faith in God who is all powerful, infinitely wise, eternally trustworthy, that he is the God who has revealed himself in his word and in Jesus and that his promises have been proven true for generations. And it is he who will never forsake you. The world around us, various religions and cultural norms want us to believe that we can place our faith in other people and things like the universe, but as a Christian, our hope, our confidence, our faith must remain in the Lord. So, yes, you may believe in your mom, your dad, your sisters, your brothers, your spouse, your job or other vices, whoever whatever may be trustworthy and can do the most for you, but nothing or no one compares to God.

Speaker 1:

We all need endurance in our faith because in reality, there will be times when you grow weary. Now I talked about weariness in the last podcast episode. You can go back and check that out and tune into that conversation as well. But getting weary, we all do it.

Speaker 1:

If you're someone who struggles with confidence in yourself, it's very likely that you will struggle with confidence in your faith. If you're impatient, you will likely struggle with your confidence in your faith. If you struggle with trust, you will likely struggle with your. Let me make it plain for you, sis. Think about this for a moment. With your faith in God, you can trust him to see you through life's challenges. For example, let me make it simple. If you begin the journey to better health and you begin to work out and exercise more, you change your eating habits to make better food choices, you begin reducing your stress by slowing your mind and body down and you begin getting quality sleep at night, you will likely see the reward of weight loss, better outcomes and results at your future doctor's visits. You may even possibly start enjoying cooking again and preparing meals at home, and even be okay with pouring into and serving others, because you have learned how to pour into yourself.

Speaker 1:

See, you don't necessarily know all the details of the actions you must take or the exact rewards and results that come from engaging in the journey to better health, but with the assurance of faith in the things you hoped for, you sought after God and asked for guidance and had trust in the process. Know this that God is always looking to see who has faith and trust in him so he can reveal his glory, and trust in him so he can reveal his glory. You don't have to rely on a magic diet, pill, surgery or prescription medication to do all the work for you. Faith without works is dead and with that, we have to believe in something. Are you going to believe and trust in God, who knows all of your needs, who wants you to cast all your cares on him, who provides for you, who sustains you, who guards your heart and mind and who replenishes your strength when you are weak? Don't shrink back on your faith. Don't lose confidence in your faith, because there is greater reward to come. Don't give up on your faith. Have the endurance to stay the course, because the promises of God are on the other side of his will for you. Jesus is the full assurance we need for our faith. Amen, family, amen. That's it. That's all.
