Speaker 1:

You are now listening to the Fit for Her Journey podcast with Allie Gibbs. Hey, everyone, welcome to another episode of Fit for Her Journey, where we have a bit of church, a bit of life, health and wellness and a lot of the word God's word. I am your host, allie Gibbs. Now I don't know who needs to hear this, but you have power and authority over the enemy. Use it.

Speaker 1:

For many of us, the response to that is that it is easier said than done. Over time, we find ourselves going through our day to day, just coasting. As long as life seems calm, everything and everyone in our world is well, your family is good, work is all right, you're working out here and there drinking your water, god is sending down blessings, there's no major disruptions, you feel like things are good. But then the enemy comes lurking. He comes to do what he does best, coming to steal, kill and destroy. It doesn't matter what life looks like. He comes like a thief in the night to cause disruption and cause confusion about what God already promised and destined for us.

Speaker 1:

As I was preparing for this episode, I came across an older sermon from one of the pastors whose teachings have edified me along my spiritual journey, and what I mean by older sermons. It was shared about a year ago Now. There were some very key concepts that hit me personally in my heart in many ways as I was listening to this sermon, but one of the takeaways I gathered was his expressions on how the devil will try to keep us from doing the right thing and when he can't stop us from doing the right thing, his next step is to try to trick us into doing the right thing the wrong way. I feel that how many times have you felt like you are doing all the right things but you are not getting or seeing the results? For example, how many times have you tried a new workout schedule or workout routine, changed your eating habits and still felt as though you're not getting results? How many times have you tried to parent your child the best way you know how to, for them to still show a lack of appreciation for what you do? How many times have you spoke to your husband about your marriage, yet you feel unseen and unheard? How many times have you positioned yourself for a promotion on your job, but they hire someone else to fill the position anyway?

Speaker 1:

See, the devil tries to steal our joy during the process. He will try to steal it in every way that he can. But James 4.7 says submit yourselves then to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. If the devil grabs a hold over your mind, your body, your family, your finances, he will begin to use what looks like inconsistencies, habits, imposter, syndrome, anxiety, lack of gratitude and so on as a form to steal and destroy our joy. Refuse him, and he has to flee from you. Jesus says in John 10 10,. The thief comes only to steal, kill and destroy. I came that you may have life and have it abundantly. In context, the devil comes to take life and Jesus came to give us life that is fulfilling and satisfying.

Speaker 1:

Let me give you some of my experience. I have a teenage daughter and although she is sweet as pie y'all, there are times where we don't see eye to eye and tempers flare, because there is nothing more challenging when you're speaking to your child but you're. Can anyone else relate? Yeah, as she's developing and navigating her early teenage years, there are many shifts and pivots that happen along the way. There are many shifts and pivots that happen along the way. I don't know about you, but navigating and leading our teens today can truly test one's parenting style.

Speaker 1:

I can recall a time where I felt as though my daughter found herself challenging me or, as her father would call it, operating in the gray area, when she didn't agree with something I've asked her to do or not to do. I often found myself becoming agitated, irritable and even stressed because I didn't understand her lack of regard for what I was telling her. Because I didn't understand her lack of regard for what I was telling her, I found myself becoming hypersensitive to her responses and body language and it completely bothered me. Now I don't know if the same applies to teenage boys, but I know firsthand with a teenage girl it can be challenging. Now, like many of you, I pray over my children continuously and I found myself asking God to reveal and deal with anything that is in me that leads me there, so I can see and or do things differently. Now, has anyone else had to call on Jesus? When your teen's attitude is on 10 and you're trying to be more like Jesus in those moments, it's a challenge.

Speaker 1:

As I was praying over it, god made it clear to me that the irritability, the agitation, the stressful flare-ups were rooted in my own experiences of abandonment and rejection. I'm like God. What Really Now I know for me. I didn't always have my mother around, nor was she fully hands-on when I was growing up. There were short periods of time where my sister and I would stay and live with our mother when we were children, but we were primarily raised by our grandparents. So having that motherly bond and connection and or mother example with my mother wasn't the best. This created roots of rejection and abandonment and although the younger version of me continues to heal, I see areas of my own shortcomings in adulthood.

Speaker 1:

I am the first to say that I am not perfect by any means. But even with my imperfections, the love of God never changes for me. I am not consumed by what I've been through. I'm not defined by my past. I know that with each new day I am blessed with new grace and mercy because God is faithful. I'll confirm it.

Speaker 1:

Lamentations reminds us that because of the Lord's great love, we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness. I say to myself the Lord is my portion. Therefore I will wait for him. Come on somebody. Yes, the Lord is our portion. Therefore we shall trust him that even during challenging times. He has compassion for what we are going through and will have mercy on us during our shortcomings. In our challenging times, the enemy takes life and the Lord gives life.

Speaker 1:

In my experience, I recognized that the enemy was after my mind, trying to trigger me with past hurt and trauma. The enemy was after my children, after my family, after my marriage, after my anointing, after my purpose, after my hope in the Lord, by using what I've been through to try to get me to step outside of the will of God, trying to get me to do the right things the wrong way. But what the enemy meant for evil, god will turn it around for good. Don't get weary or give up on your healing process. Don't give up when you're going through a season of transition with your children. Continue to pray by your faith, turn and look up to God for His grace and mercy. He knows your needs and, most of all, he knows your story. Trust in Him.

Speaker 1:

The enemy has power. We see it throughout scripture. We know it. But one thing is for certain God is omniscient, all-knowing, and two things for sure, and that is God is El Shaddai, the Almighty God. He is El Elyon. Above all, I can stop right there and give God all the glory, honor and praise, because he is, for sure, worthy of it all. See, we know that. In Ephesians we are reminded that God's mighty power is at work within us, and we learn in Luke that Jesus has given us authority over all the power of the enemy. You have power, sis.

Speaker 1:

Speaking of Luke, I am reminded of a time I taught Bible study on the later chapters of Luke, more specifically Luke 22, during the time when Jesus predicts Peter's denial of him. When Jesus predicts Peter's denial of him, there is so much context and emotion during this time in the Bible because we begin to see the unfolding of the prophecy of Jesus's death and resurrection. But we also see how the enemy is still busy, lurking on the prowl to come against God's plan, lurking on the prowl to come against God's plan. Let me speak with you all for a moment on Luke 22, specifically verse 31 through 32. And it reads Simon, simon, satan has asked to sift all of you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, simon, that your faith may not fail and, when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers. Listen y'all Now.

Speaker 1:

I'm no theologian, but I'm sure some can agree that Satan wanted to crush the disciples so badly, especially Simon. I'll take it even further to say I believe Satan is and was behind Peter's denial of Jesus. Why? Because the enemy is evil, but also because he saw something in Peter that would cause him to step outside of the will of God His lack of faith. Walk with me y'all.

Speaker 1:

The same devil, the same enemy who lurks around seeking to steal, kill and destroy us. The same enemy who tries to keep us in bondage mentally, physically and spiritually, who is constantly telling us lies, that we're not enough, that we will never come out of depression, that we will always be rejected, that there's no way we can be loved due to our sins, that we will never prioritize our health. The one who tries to trip us up on our faith in Jesus, on our faith in Jesus. Yes, that enemy. That enemy who seems to have so much power, still and I mean still has to ask for and get permission from God to do any of it. We see it there in the text Satan has asked to sift you all as wheat. He wanted to sift the disciples individually. So you mean to tell me? The enemy who is described as a roaring lion prowling and seeking to devour people.

Speaker 1:

The same enemy who tries to keep us from our calling our purpose, our anointing, only has limited power. Why? Why are we allowing him to have power over our mind and body to trick us? Y'all just don't know how much. That has set me free on my spiritual journey and should do the same for you too. Plus, it puts so much into perspective on the power we have within us through Jesus.

Speaker 1:

Anxiety, depression, quarrels in our relationships, quarrels with our children, false hope, no worth, condemnation, rejection, unforgiveness, not being loved or enough. Rejection, unforgiveness, not being loved or enough. It's not our portion, none of it. Okay, yes, satan has power and a strategy that we should be aware of with his attacks, but he is guaranteed to mess up. Think about Job. Grab your Bible and dive into Job's story when you get a chance. I really feel that will bless somebody. God is all-powerful and we have the love of Jesus and the Holy Spirit interceding on our behalf in prayer to ensure God's will will be done.

Speaker 1:

What did Jesus do for Peter? He prayed for him. Jesus assured Peter that his faith would not be destroyed. Although it may waver a bit, we've all been there before. Right, I know I have. The good news is. Jesus did not see the temporary lapse in Peter's faith as failure. He did not condemn him because he knew that Peter would return to him. And Peter later became such a powerful leader in the early church.

Speaker 1:

Okay, listen, I know how seeds that were previously planted with hurt, I know how seeds that were previously planted with hurt, pain, abandonment, that are connected to sin, can cause our faith to waver. Those seeds begin to grow and grow over time. But I want to challenge you to pull those roots and lay them down at the feet of Jesus and surrender it to God and receive the blessing of being set free from it all. Will you be reminded of it? Yes, you're human. Will you be tested? Of course, will you overcome? Absolutely, but you have power. You have authority over all the power of the devil and his raggedy schemes.

Speaker 1:

And I believe the devil is nervous right now, because I know when you decide to roll up your sleeves and shake things up with the full armor of God, there's nothing he can do. Who can stand against you? No weapon formed against you shall prosper. What the enemy meant for evil, god is turning it around for your good. God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind.

Speaker 1:

So I want to leave you all with this you do not have to stand toe-to-toe with the enemy, blinded by his schemes. Be strong in the Lord and his mighty power to stand boldly against all strategies of the devil, for we are not fighting against flesh and blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in the dark world and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. So, my sister, stand firm with the belt of truth buckled around your waist. Stand firm with the breastplate of righteousness across your chest. Stand firm with your feet fitted in peace that comes from the gospel, so you will be ready and prepared. In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith so you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the devil. Put on the helmet of salvation and take the sword of the spirit, which is the word of God, and you will be prepared for every evil scheme of the enemy, because then the enemy doesn't stand a chance.

Speaker 1:

I know the story ends with you and I as victorious. In Jesus name, amen, sis, I hope this blesses you. I love you, family, and God loves you more.
